HP has released a teaser video for its upcoming Envy 14 Spectre release, you can view the video below:
The video itself doesn’t give away a whole lot other than this laptop will be thin, have a black lid color, silver palm rest and have a 14-inch screen. And that’s why they call it a tease video, it’s supposed to make you wonder what the heck it is without giving away anything.
Some Google searching shows that the drivers were leaked back in November for this laptop and then quickly pulled by HP. The model number will be the Envy 14-3000 Spectre:
Though you cannot access the driver support page anymore for the Envy 14 Spectre, at the time we can confirm it suggested this will be using the upcoming Intel Ivy Bridge platform of processors. Since the Ivy Bridge release is not until around April, it’s likely HP will announce this at CES next week and then give a release time frame of April or May 2012. Realistically, it’ll probably be May before this laptop actually ships.
Now, some people are saying this is an Ultrabook, but it’ll be tough to meet the requirements of the Ultrabook definition as they stand now. An Ultrabook is supposed to weigh 3lbs or less, that’s virtually impossible to accomplish with a 14” screen laptop unless you sacrifice durability and make a really thin case. The Folio 13 that HP is calling an Ultrabook is over 3lbs, so maybe they’ll just continue to fudge the definition and market this as such anyway. HP is promising more details soon, so stay tuned!
