New HP Envy 14 Spectre Coming in 2012

While we just saw recent updates to the Envy 15 and Envy 17 line the Envy 14 was conspicuously missing.   It appears the Envy 14 will get a refresh in early 2012 as the FCC has just approved what HP is calling the Envy 14 Spectre according to the FCC document for the marketing name.

The technical specs on the Envy 14 Spectre are not transparent (no pun intended).  We can guess that this laptop will probably be Intel Sandy Bridge processor based upon initial release and then get an update to Ivy Bridge.   The Ivy Bridge platform is not due until around Spring and since this Envy 14 will probably be unveiled at CES 2012, which starts January 9th, there’s a greater likelihood of it having the current Intel Core i5 and i7 processors on board.  It will also likely carry the new AMD Radeon 7900M series of graphics cards.
Since the new Envy 15 sports an IPS Radiance display we would expect to see that trickle down to the Envy 14 Spectre.  As far as design, the naming use of “Spectre” would lead us to believe it is not the same as the other Envy lineup laptops.  Spectre can either mean a ghost like apparition or maybe it refers to the bad guys terrorist organization in James Bond.  Who knows, but as CES is coming up in a few weeks here it’ll probably only be a matter of weeks before we get the big reveal.
