“Mythbusters,” the TV show, has pulled off some amazing stunts. We particularly like the one where they disintegrated a car, or at least attempted to do so. The footage is awe inspiring and if you haven’t seen it we suggest you check it immediately. That experiment and many others have transpired flawlessly, but two nights ago the team of scientist, lead by Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, miscalculated and the only thing that got busted was their ego.
The above video pretty much explains it all, but in short order, they were trying to fire a variety of things out of a cannon to test their effectiveness. Like most episodes they setup a control experiment, which in this case was to fire an actual cannon ball to test its raw power. Unfortunately, somebody put a 1 where there should have been a 0, and the canon ball missed the target, a set of water filled trash cans that were designed to stop the ammo in its tracks. Instead it launched off a hill, into a house, passed a couple sleeping in their bedroom, shot through their bedroom wall, bounced across a few lanes of traffic and found a final resting place inside a minivan, about 1000 yards from the point of origin. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
